Aegis

Aegis: We Must Help The Angels When They Break

Beholden, I behold
Sullied feathers astray:
There a wing severed cold,
Fallen to earthly way.
Low above, a seraph,
Broken, with no way back;
For its alms the tariff
Of suffering for its lack.
I alone reach my hand,
But grasp does not exceed;
Defeated, here I stand
In witness to a need.
Then knowing overtakes;
My mind soars past reaching;
I, an image God makes;
I, of heights unbreaching.
Always God’s angels act
When we beseech for aid;
Heaven and earth – the pact,
Mutually thus made.
When we break, Heaven breaks,
Clouds fall like angels’ wings;
When we give, Heaven takes,
The world repairs and sings.
We must help those who break
In helping us to not:
Lift human hearts at stake,
Refusing graceless lot.
Aegis to those above,
Our thoughts can give them wings:
Like for like, love for love,
The righting of all things.
